Simulated Attack Service

With cybercrime at an all-time high, organisations need to become more focused and targeted in the way they protect their critical systems.

Simulated Attack Services (also known as CREST STAR assessments) deliver controlled, bespoke, intelligence-led penetration tests that reflect specific risks as defined by cyber threat intelligence.

Security Alliance's CREST STAR simulated attack service uses information provided by approved threat intelligence sources, including the inhouse Cyber Fusion Team at Security Alliance, to identify potential attackers (threat actors).

By mimicking an attacker's tactics, techniques and procedures, a bespoke test is then created to assess how successful an attack on the organisation might be, and to measure the effectiveness and maturity of its detection and response capabilities.

Simulating sophisticated and persistent attacks

Simulated Attack Services differ from other popular forms of penetration testing because they are based on threat intelligence. They are less constrained, and focus instead on the more sophisticated and persistent attacks against critical systems and essential services. The inclusion of specific cyber threat intelligence also ensures that the tests replicate as closely as possible the evolving threat landscape, and therefore remain relevant and up-to-date.

CREST STAR penetration tests are typically performed without widespread knowledge of the target organisation's IT security or response capability. A key part of the test is to assess how effectively the target is able to detect and respond to simulated attacks.
